UEI vs DUNS: What Changed for SAM.gov in 2025?

 





Did you know the DUNS number is no longer used by the federal government?

As of April 2022, the DUNS number has been officially retired, replaced by the Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) for all SAM.gov registrations and federal transactions.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the difference:



The UEI is now mandatory for:

  • Registering in SAM.gov

  • Applying for federal grants

  • Getting paid on contracts

  • Submitting bids through GSA and Grants.gov
